The September 16, 2013 General Membership will be held at Swan Lake Presbyterian Church on Haynesworth Street in Sumter, SC. Our featured speaker is Brent Burgin, Director of the Native American Studies Archive at USC Lancaster.
His topic will be, “Mrs. Bessie Raffield Dunlap and the Bethel Presbytery Mission School on the Catawba Indian Reservation: The Origins of Catawba Literacy”.
This promises to be an absolutely facinating presentation! Mr. Burgin is a great speaker. The meeting is open to the public with no admission cost.
We would encourage anyone that is not joined the Sumter County Genealogical Society to do so! We are acquiring new materials daily to add to our already vast collection. The cost is minimal and your visits are unlimited during our open hours. You will also get a monthly copy of “The Black River Watchman”, our publication sent out September thru May each year.
Please come join us; we promise you won’t regret it!
